The Normal Heart theatre trip

An informal trip for those in London to the National Theatre to see Larry Kramer’s iconic 1985 play.

National Theatre

Set in New York City 1981-84 the play centres on the battle of the gay community in the AIDS epidemic as they bravely and movingly lobby the general public, government and other authorities for help and recognition in the face of widespread homophobia. It is told with raw and unguarded passion through the lens of personal relationships, from the point of view of a small group of activists led by Ned Weeks, thought to represent Kramer himself. The play was intended as an alarm bell raising awareness of the disease at a critical time and originally ran for 294 shows on Broadway.

We will meet for drinks in the Stalls foyer bar at 6.45pm and during the interval. Please let us know if you’re planning to come.
